July 4th Banner Art Competition

The 4th of July Big Bang Celebration Banner Art Competition, sponsored by L&F Distributors is your opportunity to create a design which could be displayed on Shoreline Drive for up to 10 years.  Winning entries and 1st Runners Up will be determined by a panel of five (5) Judges for the following categories:

  • Elementary School
  • Middle School
  • High School
  • College/University/Amateur Artist
  • Professional Artist

Each category’s Winner and 1st Runner Up will be announced before the City Council Meeting at or around 12:00 pm on Tuesday, May 28, 2013.  Winners and 1st Runners Up will receive a t-shirt, certificate and GoLocal discount card (www.golocalcorpuschristi.com) at the announcement of the winners and their designs will be printed on banners which will be erected along Shoreline Drive during the 2013 4th of July Big Bang Celebration and for up to 10 years thereafter.  Additionally, mockups of the winning designs will be displayed on the first floor of City Hall during the month of July 2013.

Timeline

The competition is being held to determine the design of banners to be erected along Shoreline Drive during the 2013 4th of July Big Bang Celebration.  Winning designs will be used during each subsequent 4th of July Big Bang Celebration for up to ten (10) years.

Content

Banner design should be the artist’s rendition or impression of Corpus Christi’s 4th of July celebration(s).

Eligibility

All Corpus Christi artists, whether professional or amateur, are eligible to participate.  By submitting an entry, each contestant agrees to the rules of the contest.

Submission

Initially, please submit low resolution (small) digital files in PDF or JPEG format via email to Banners@dtowncc.com.  High resolution files will be requests of the winning designs once judging has taken place.  We cannot accept files submitted through the mail on disk.  You may submit only one entry per year.  Submissions should include the following information:

  • Artist’s Name
  • Category of Submission
  • School or Professional association (if applicable)
  • Contact Phone Number
  • Backup Contact Phone Number
  • Contact email address
  • For underage individuals, the name and relationship of a responsible adult with whom the Committee may communicate

Submissions may not contain material that, in the sole discretion of the Big Bang Celebration Banner Competition Committee, violate or infringe on another’s rights, including but not limited to privacy, publicity or intellectual property rights, or that constitutes copyright infringement.  Designs that violate or infringe upon another person’s rights, including copyright, are not eligible.

  • Submissions should be scaled to match an 84” x 30” display area.
  • No advertising, corporate logos, or political statements are allowed.
  • Lewd, crude or socially unacceptable designs are not permitted.  The determination of whether a submitted design meets these criteria will be at the sole discretion of the Big Bang Celebration Banner Competition Committee.

Use & Reuse of Contest Content

You will still retain the right to publish your work in other media and to further transfer rights to this work to other parties.  By submitting a design, you agree that the submission is an original work of art and you agree to these terms and conditions.

By submitting a design, you agree to give the Big Bang Celebration Committee non-exclusive rights to reproduce your work to be used in current and subsequent marketing and media projects in all media in perpetuity.  You further agree that your design, should it be selected, will be printed on a banner and displayed on Shoreline drive during each 4th of July Big Bang Celebration beginning in 2013 and continuing for up to 10 years.  Contest entries may be selected to appear in print and online publications and marketing initiatives.

You may make fair use of this contest content as defined by fair use copyright law.  Please note that you are responsible for determining whether your use is fair and for responding to any claims that may arise from your sue.  More information about copyright fair use law can be found at http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html.

Deadline

All entries must be received via email by 12 noon on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 Central Standard Time (“CST”).  The Downtown Management District’s computer is the official time-keeping device for the Contest.  If for any reason a contestant’s entry is confirmed to have been erroneously deleted, lost, or otherwise destroyed or corrupted, contestant’s sole remedy is another entry in the Contest during the Contest Period.

Prizes

The Big Bang Celebration Banner Contest Committee reserves the right at its sole and absolute discretion to award a substitute prize of equal or greater value if a prize described in these Official Rules is unavailable or cannot be awarded, in whole or in part, for any reason.  The Big Bang Celebration Banner Contest Committee makes no representation or warranty concerning the appearance, safety or performance of any prize awarded.  Restrictions, conditions and limitations may apply.  The Big Bang Celebration Banner Contest Committee will not replace any lost or stolen Prizes.  No prize transfer, assignment or substitution by Winners is permitted.
