Listening to my inner voice; the journey
I believe that everyone is creative and can create great art, but not everyone can be an artist. The distinction lies in the inner voice that always pushes you, always make you push yourself one step farther, always makes you think outside the box, always asks “what if?”, and always has you pursuing your next concept. It is this inner voice that guides and provides me with my artistic vision. The journey for me is to learn to listen, understand and accept this path.
For me, the process of creating art is also a spiritual journey combining articulation, self-discovery and endurance. This spiritual evolution has allowed my art to develop and mature over time, both in complexity of process and voice.
Inspiration and Goals
I am inspired by the power and energy of life, and intrigued by the link between nature and our existence. I strive to interpret and blend inherent rhythms found in everyday life and culture into infinite forms and endless color variations that revolve around environmental elements – nature, earth and universe.
My goal is to capture the essence of my subject through this creative frequency, thus creating an intimate dialogue with the viewer.
The Process
My work encompasses a variety of mediums, but I have found fused glass to be the most inspiring, difficult and mystic. It lets me be spontaneous and responsive, providing an intimacy with the concept as it translates from mind, to hand, to glass, and then to heat. I listen to the material and evolve the art as it progresses.
By exploring and manipulating sheet glass, powders, frits and stringers, I assemble abstract compositions in layers, and over numerous firings, a language develops between the frequency of color and interaction of light at various depths in the glass. Texture is created underneath the glass.
This process let’s me express complexity within simplicity. When viewed at a distance, bold colors and composition are exposed, while revealing subtle and dynamic depths of chromatic variations and texture at an intimate gaze.
I have developed my own distinctive style by balancing experimentation and technique, with confidence and experience. This intuitive balance enables me to stay fresh and create consistently challenging work
